The Indo-Pacific is entering a period of heightened strategic competition, with rivalry between the United States and China reshaping regional security dynamics. China’s accelerating military modernisation, Grey Zone Operations, and coercive maritime activities have intensified tensions, while emerging domains such as cyber warfare and advanced technologies are altering defence postures across the region.
These developments place additional pressure on ASEAN-led mechanisms, which remain essential platforms for dialogue but must now demonstrate greater effectiveness in crisis management and practical security cooperation.
For Thailand, this changing landscape presents a critical moment to refine its defence priorities and strengthen resilience. Strategic adaptation will require deeper cooperation with regional partners, improved crisis-management frameworks, and sustained investments in maritime awareness, cyber readiness, and defence diplomacy. Thailand must navigate these shifts while preserving ASEAN unity and maintaining a balanced approach towards major powers.
In response to these developments, the Institute of Democratization Studies (iDS), supported with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Thailand Office, is organising the seminar "Geopolitics and Security Landscape in the Indo-Pacific: Military Perspectives on Emerging Challenges and Regional Resilience " to examine emerging security challenges and assess how Thailand can bolster its strategic posture.
The event aims to foster informed dialogue, build professional networks among security practitioners, and produce policy-relevant insights that support stronger regional resilience and long-term strategic planning.
