The India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) represents one of the most significant infrastructure and connectivity initiatives of the 21st century. By linking India, the Gulf region, Israel, and Europe through an integrated network of maritime, rail, and logistics infrastructure, IMEC has the potential to strengthen global supply chains, enhance regional economic integration, and promote long-term stability across the Middle East.
Beyond its economic significance, IMEC offers a strategic framework for advancing regional cooperation. For Israel and Jordan, the corridor provides an opportunity to deepen the economic foundations of their peace treaty through shared infrastructure and trade. At the international level, IMEC has emerged as a priority initiative for the United States, the European Union, Germany, and other global partners seeking to diversify trade routes, reduce supply-chain vulnerabilities, and create resilient alternatives to existing East–West transportation corridors.

Our preliminary study together with the Institute for Maritime Policy and Strategy, MPS, identifies the Jordan River Crossing (Sheikh Hussein Crossing) as the most significant logistical bottleneck currently limiting the corridor's development. The study proposes transforming the crossing into a modern international inland port through a phased expansion program. Key recommendations include increasing cargo-handling capacity, establishing a dedicated transit terminal at the Jordan Gateway Industrial Park, and improving cross-border coordination and logistics infrastructure. By removing this critical bottleneck, Israel and Jordan can unlock the full potential of IMEC, strengthen regional economic integration, and position the corridor as a major gateway connecting Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
