Chiang Mai’s Youth Tackling Climate Change with Innovative Ideas

Policy Recommendations from Hackathon Activity

At the Climate Change Hackathon organized by the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration at Chiang Mai University, with support from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Thailand, upper secondary school teachers and students from Chiang Mai came together on August 13 to gain insights into public policy design and regional cooperation issues in Southeast Asia. Participants learned from policymakers and experts across various fields, then received challenges from the facilitators to work in teams, brainstorm, and propose policy solutions to mitigate the impacts of climate change in a hackathon-style competition.

All participants demonstrated great potential, strong motivation, and creativity. The policy proposals they presented, both for domestic public policy and regional approaches to address climate change, were guided by faculty from the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration at Chiang Mai University. The faculty provided perspectives to frame ideas, suggested practical approaches, highlighted key stakeholders, and explained expected outcomes at national and regional levels, making each group’s proposals stronger and more feasible.

The Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration at Chiang Mai University will compile feedback from all groups and present it to government agencies – national and local levels - through future faculty activities.
