From 20 to 24 November 2025, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia will be stage of the 14th Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC). The event will feature expert panels, cutting-edge workshops and networking sessions. KAS Media Africa is supporting this conference, which will bring together over 1500 international journalists, by enabling African journalists to participate.
The event programme covers online search techniques and practices for cross-border collaboration, as well as tips and tools for exiled media. It also provides updates on security, media law, and dealing with stress and burnout. Alongside data researchers and innovative media experts, the event will also feature journalists who have worked in environments with limited press freedom, who will share their experiences of working in risky conditions. In addition, experts in satellites and artificial intelligence will be present.
A particular highlight is going to be the announcement of the winners of the 2025 Global Shining Light Award. This award honours investigative journalism in the Global South that has been carried out under threat or duress, or in extremely challenging conditions.
