Navigating Narratives, Nurturing Norms

The 16th South China Sea International Conference, titled “Navigating Narratives, Nurturing Norms” was successfully held in Ha Long on October 23-24. This annual flagship event, supported by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Vietnam, brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss critical issues surrounding the South China Sea. The conference successfully fostered a rich exchange of ideas and perspectives on maritime security and regional cooperation. The emphasis on adhering to widely recognized principles and standards amidst global competition highlighted the conference’s commitment to ensuring international peace and providing a framework for peaceful dispute resolution.

Visit of MP Danny Freymark to Vietnam

MP Danny Freymark, Deputy Chairman of the CDU Parliamentary Group in the Berlin State Parliament, visited Hanoi, Vietnam from October 21 to October 22, 2024, facilitated by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) Vietnam. The visit aimed to build bridges between Berlin and Hanoi through a German-Vietnamese municipal dialogue, strengthening of parliamentary and party ties, and promotion of people-to-people contacts.

Visit of MP Serap Güler to Vietnam

MP Serap Güler, a Member of the German Bundestag and Board Member of CDU, visited Vietnam from October 28 to October 30, 2024. The dialogue program organised by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Vietnam aimed at strengthening relations between Vietnam and Germany and fostering political dialogue about topics of mutual concern.

Course Dissemination Workshop

Foreign and Security Affairs #KAS4Security is a crucial pillar of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Vietnam. Among its diverse activities, including flagship expert conferences and seminars, KAS has supported Vietnamese partners, particularly educational institutions, in designing course syllabi and textbooks in international relations, international politics, and foreign and security affairs.

MEKONG INTERNATIONAL FORUM 2024

ENERGY TRANSITION FOR A SUSTAINABLE MEKONG SUB-REGION

Hanoi, 27 September 2024 - The fourth edition of the Mekong Forum series, themed “Energy Transition for a Sustainable Mekong Sub-Region,” was successfully organized by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Vietnam in collaboration with the Institute for Foreign Policy and Strategic Studies at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam. This hybrid event attracted around 120 participants, including national scholars, experts from Mekong countries, and representatives of diplomatic institutions, to address the multifaceted challenges of energy transition in the region. And, we are delighted to have the participation of German expert Dr. Frederick Kliem who is from KAS Regional Programme on Energy Security and Climate Change Asia-Pacific (RECAP).

Neighborhood Planning and Design Towards Healthy Cities

Toolkit Launching event

The first collaborative project between KAS Vietnam and Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, titled “Health-oriented policies and sustainable building practices to promote well-being and green urban governance in Vietnam (HOPE),” is completed. Initiated in 2022, the project has progressed through three phases, developing comprehensive and cross-cutting knowledge in health-oriented policies and sustainable building practices/green housing in Vietnamese cities. Additionally, both international and Vietnamese trans-disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge have been shared and exchanged. On Thursday, September 19th, final product of this project: The Toolkit for Neighborhood Planning and Design Towards Healthy Cities is officially presented to relevant audiences.

The EU Approach to Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific: From Strategy to Practice

Research Dissemination Workshop co-oganized by KAS Vietnam and University of Social Sciences and Humanities

On 24 September, we were thrilled to share the findings from our three-year research project titled "EU Approach to Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific: From Strategy to Practice". This collaborative effort between KAS and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities Hanoi has brought together representatives from the European Union in Vietnam, Dutch and German Embassies Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vietnam German Embassy Hanoi, and numerous international relations lecturers and researchers from universities across Vietnam.

Workshop on International experiences on preventing money laundering and terrorist financing

Co-organized by KAS Vietnam and Department of Criminal and Administrative Legislation, Ministry of Justice

The workshop explores international experiences in developing and enforcing legal regulations to prevent and combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism. It focuses on enhancing the effectiveness of Vietnam’s Effectiveness Assessment Report and Technical Compliance Report. Specifically, the workshop addresses areas where Vietnam currently falls short of Financial Action Task Force standards, particularly those related to the Ministry of Justice’s responsibilities.

The third Bavi dialogue - Armed Conflicts in the Era of Renewed Great Power Competition

On August 23rd, the 3rd Bavi Dialogue, co-organized by KAS Vietnam and the Institute for Foreign Policy and Strategic Studies (Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam), convened leading security experts, scholars, and practitioners to discuss critical security issues related to armed conflicts in the era of renewed great power competition. We were honored to have the participation of renowned German security policy scholars, Prof. Carlo Masala from the Center for Intelligence and Security (Bundeswehr University Munich) and Dr. Felix Heiduk from the German Institute for International and Security Affairs SWP.
