TACHELES

Israel and Germany. One year after October 7th.

October 7, 2024 marks the first anniversary of Hamas' horrific attack on Israel. We want to take the anniversary as an opportunity to send a signal in favour of Israel's right to exist, for Jewish life in Germany and against anti-Semitism. We will speak out against hatred of Jews worldwide. Together with guests from Israel and Germany and partner organisations, we are organising a conference at the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Akademie on September 30, 2024 with a mixture of lectures, panels, workshops, art and culture. For us, one thing is certain: hatred of Jews is incompatible with the values of our country, and we must not accept in our society that Jews no longer feel safe.

South Africa as a strategic partner for Germany?

Perspectives of the German-South African Cooperation

Germany and South Africa cooperate on a bilateral and increasingly on a multilateral level. As currently holding the presidency of the EU and AU, the last few months both governments prepared the summit of the two regional organizations originally scheduled for autumn 2020. As non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council they have collaborated to assess and resolve conflict-ridden situations. Will South Africa continue to be an important partner for Germany in solving future challenges at the global and continental level and in strengthening multilateralism?

„Free the Children Now!“

On November 15 and 16, 2023, a group of relatives of hostages abducted in the Gaza Strip visited Germany.

In the course of Hamas' brutal terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, over 200 people were abducted to the Gaza Strip and have been held there for over five weeks. Among the hostages are at least 34 children. 20 of them are now orphans without knowing it, as the terrorists killed their parents. Impressive initiatives have been formed in Israel to free the hostages, which have also met with a great response internationally. On November 15 and 16, 2023, a group of relatives of hostages abducted in the Gaza Strip visited Germany: Gilad Korngold, Avihai Brodutch and Batsheva Yahalomi Cohen with their daughter Yael. All of them had family members - partners, children or grandchildren - abducted to the Gaza Strip. Talks were held with the Qatari Embassy, Bundestag President Bärbel Bas, Finance Minister Christian Lindner, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael Roth, and the Deputy Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group for Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, as well as other members of the Bundestag and the Federal Chancellery. The delegation also took part in the commemoration of the Reichspogromnacht in the Berlin House of Representatives. A press conference was held at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation on Wednesday afternoon.

During two days of open and honest discussions, one question was dominating the agenda: How can the partnership between Germany and the Gulf States be strengthened?
