Decentralization and Local Development in Jordan

On February 21, 2011, KAS Amman and Visions Center for Strategic and Development Studies organized a joint workshop on "Decentralization and local development in Jordan". Experts, political decision makers and representatives of the civil society debated on the topic of decentralization and its implementation in Jordan. “DEMOCRACY AND ELECTIONS – HISTORY AND TESTIMONIES”

Under the patronage of the Minister of Political Development in Jordan, Engineer Musa Maaytah, KAS launched its joint publication with the Arab Women Media Center on November 4, 2010, in an event in the Sheraton Hotel Amman at the attendance of important cultural, political and media figures. The book contributes to review the history of elections in Jordan, covers the different election regulations and amendments and carefully examines the new 2010 electoral regulations.

Visit of leading representatives of KAS partners in the Kingdom of Jordan

On October 24, 2010, four heads of our partners accompanied by Dr. Martin Beck travelled to a one-week study visit to Hamburg and Berlin, Germany: His Excellency Hasan Abu Nimah (Regional Center for Human Rights), Dr. Khaled Awamleh (Visions Center for Strategic and Development Studies), Mr. Oraib Al-Rantawi (Al-Quds Center for Political Studies), and Mr. Mustafa Nasereddin (Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization). 3rd National Conference on Competition of the Ministry of Industry and Trade

During a welcome speech at the 3rd conference on the competition law in Jordan organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade under the patronage of H.E. the Minister Eng. Amer al-Hadidi, Dr. Martin Beck highlighted that Jordan is among the top countries in the region in terms of modernizing its competition law. This could help to enforce the principles of the free market, to avoid competition imbalances in economic sectors and to protect consumers.

Dr. Martin Beck and Léa Collet attended the 3rd World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies (WOCMES) in Barcelona. The KAS Office Amman had a book and information desk and organized a panel on “The Multi-Level Facet of Middle Eastern Security” (abstract: http://wocmes.iemed.org/en/preorg-the-multi-level).
