The event brought together female politicians, decision-makers and experts from the country, the region and the European Union, with the aim of encouraging the exchange of experiences and ideas on the role of women in contemporary political processes and in shaping the European future of the Western Balkans.
The official opening was marked by addresses from Zhaklina Peshevska, MP and President of the Women’s Union of VMRO-DPMNE; Daniel Braun, Official Representative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung; Dragan Kovachki, MP and Secretary General of VMRO-DPMNE, as well as Rozália Biró, Vice President of EPP Women.
In their addresses, the speakers emphasized the importance of greater participation of women in political leadership, especially at a time of significant geopolitical changes, security challenges and rapid technological transformation. It was highlighted that the European integration of the Western Balkans remains a strategic priority for the stability and development of the region and that women have an essential role in decision-making processes and the creation of public policies.
Within the framework of the programme, several thematic panels were held, dedicated to the European perspective of the Western Balkans, current security challenges in Europe, the energy transition, transport connectivity, as well as the role of science, technology and innovation in accelerating economic and social development.
Particular attention was devoted to the role of women in shaping policies related to security, foreign policy and European integration. The participants discussed the challenges faced by women in public and political life, as well as the opportunities for their greater involvement in leadership structures at the national and European levels.
During the discussions, it was emphasized that the European Union enlargement process should remain based on the principles of merit, the rule of law and the implementation of reforms, while stressing the need to preserve the credibility of the enlargement policy and to ensure a clear European perspective for the countries of the Western Balkans.
Special emphasis was placed on the need for greater representation of women in sectors related to science, technology, engineering and innovation, as well as on their role in shaping policies related to digital transformation and the competitiveness of European societies.
The event represented an important platform for networking, exchanging good practices and strengthening cooperation among women leaders from the region and the European Union. Through interactive discussions and the exchange of experiences, the participants reaffirmed their commitment to European values, democratic development and the advancement of the role of women in decision-making processes.
By organizing this event, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung once again confirmed its support for the European integration of the Western Balkans, the strengthening of regional cooperation and the promotion of active and responsible women’s leadership as an important factor for the future development of the region.
