In the year 2022, in light of the Russian war against Ukraine, Europe is confronted with a fundamental shift in political realities and a disruption of certainties that were previously believed to be secure. Almost 30 years ago, the continent already experienced a major upheaval: the political and economic transformation of the countries of Eastern Central Europe, which followed the failure of the socialist state ideology and sealed the end of the USSR.
These extensive processes were characterized by both an overwhelming enthusiasm and a nostalgic insecurity. The former socialist value systems were replaced by the desire for freedom, democracy and a market economy based on the western model. What kind of world view does a generation develop that grows up in such ambivalent and eventful times? How do young people view today's Europe? What hopes do they have, what fears do they share? And how do their perspectives differ from one another?
We would like to explore these questions in our KAS Central European Summer School on Values, which will take place from September 1st to 5th in Dresden. Together with you and other young people under 30 years we would like to exchange different perspectives on Europe. Together with the Handwerkskammer Dresden we invite you to exciting lectures of renowned speakers, interesting workshops and educational excursions.
