‘We are witnesses to a real upheaval’

KAS Day 2024 - Democracy protects. Protects democracy.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the German Basic Law. As the foundation of our democracy, it regulates our coexistence and secures freedom, peace and democracy in Germany. But will the next 75 years continue like the last? The elections in Saxony and Thuringia make it clear that we are facing a radical change. In politically turbulent times like these, it becomes particularly clear that the fundamental rights, values and principles contained in our Basic Law cannot be taken for granted and that we must stand up for their preservation. Under the motto ‘Democracy protects. Protect democracy.’, our guests debated in numerous workshops, lectures and discussion rounds on KAS Day. Guests included Friedrich Merz, Chairman of the CDU in Germany and the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Ebba Busch, Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden, and Members of the Bundestag Philipp Amthor and Serap Güler.

Digitale Bildung in Schule, Lehrkräftebildung und Hochschule

KI-Anregungen für den Arbeitsalltag - und der Blick aufs Große, Ganze

„Kompetent, digital, vernetzt? Innovationen für die Schule von heute!“ – unter dieser Fragstellung eröffneten die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung und der Deutsche Lehrerverband die gemeinsame Tagung am 12.06.2024. Dr. Melanie Piepenschneider, die Leiterin der Abteilung Politische Bildung der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, stellte in ihrer Begrüßung die vernetzende Arbeit der Stiftung in diesem Bereich vor: Ansätze und Formate, mit denen junge Menschen für politische Bildung erreicht und in verschiedenen Formen für die Demokratie aktiviert werden können. Stefan Düll, Präsident des Deutschen Lehrerverbandes, wies in seiner Begrüßung auf die rasante Entwicklung der Gesellschaft hin, in der digitale Medien in Arbeit, Kommunikation und Freizeit bestimmt: eine Entwicklung, auf die Schulen die Kinder und Jugendlichen vorbereiten muss, als Querschnittsaufgabe in allen Fächern – und eine Entwicklung, für die Schulen die notwendige Ausstattung benötigen.

During the Kiel Security Conference on 22nd June 2024, high-ranking political and military representatives discussed the evolving security landscape in the Baltic region and the High North, in light of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and geopolitical shifts. Calling for faster military modernisation, strengthened resilience of societies and readiness to respond to the growing number of threats.

Dynamik, Mut zur Veränderung und Neugier auf Neues

Der Preis Soziale Marktwirtschaft geht in diesem Jahr nach Sachsen an die Unternehmer Nils Aldag und Christian von Olshausen. Die beiden Visionäre haben eindrucksvoll gezeigt, wie innovative Forschungsergebnisse in wirtschaftlich erfolgreiche Produkte umgewandelt werden können. Denn der Einsatz von Wasserstoff als Energiequelle der Zukunft führte ihre Firma Sunfire zum Erfolg.

Am zweiten Tag der XII. Adenauer-Konferenz stand die Stärkung des europäischen Pfeilers in der NATO und die Zukunft des Bündnisses im Fokus. Neben dem 75. Jahrestag der Gründung der NATO warf die Konferenz auch den Blick auf die 20-jährige Mitgliedschaft Rumäniens im Verteidigungsbündnis.

Hi Ai - the AI congress for everyone

On March 20, 2024, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation invited guests from science, business, politics and culture to a one-day AI conference. At our 17 sub-events, we offered our guests formats such as workshops, training sessions, exhibitions, talks and pitches, where we placed particular emphasis on a comprehensive perspective that highlighted both the technological aspects of AI and its impact on democracy and democratic processes.

Veranstaltungsbericht zum „Café Kyiv“-Panel

Das Bild der Ukraine in Deutschland hat sich seit Beginn des russischen Angriffskrieges gewandelt. Während die Ukraine vor dem 24. Februar 2022 in der breiten Öffentlichkeit kaum wahrgenommen wurde, beschäftigen sich deutsche Politik und Gesellschaft inzwischen intensiv mit dem Land. Das Panel thematisierte diesen Wahrnehmungswandel unter Berücksichtigung der eingesetzten Kommunikationsstrategien und Desinformationskampagnen.

Conference "Global Causes and Consequences of Medicine Shortages"

Event Report

Drug shortages keep making the headlines. The causes and consequences are manifold and global. Together with the Hertie School and supported by the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Federation of German Industries (BDI), the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organised a conference on this topic from 20-21 February 2024 with representatives from science, politics and industry. After a day and a half of closed workshops, the conference ended on February 21 with a public part.
