Key regional players in the new global order

India, Kenya, Columbia, Turkey

In times of global power shifts and geopolitical fragmentation, it is a challenge for Germany and the European Union to build stable and mutually attractive partnerships. The perspective of the (potential) partner countries is rarely taken into account. What are their central interests, what specific dependencies characterise their foreign policy decisions, in which regional orders are they integrated? And what determines their view of Germany and the EU? This project is dedicated to these and other questions. With India, Kenya, Colombia and Turkey, four countries from four regions of the world were analysed and their foreign policy positions examined more closely. The result is an attempt to draw conclusions for the (foreign) policy of Germany and the European Union in dealing with these and other countries with which strategic partnerships are to be intensified and expanded.

Countries such as Canada and Estonia have achieved considerable success through data-driven strategies and offer valuable approaches for Germany. Leaders in school boards and ministries play a critical role. The Canadian province of Alberta shows how clear policies and structured use of data can foster a culture of collaborative professionalism. It is recommended to develop technical and analytical competences for data use, to strengthen cooperative professionalism and to clearly define and review strategic goals.

Islamism in East Germany

Current trends and challenges

In the eastern German federal states, the activities and membership numbers of groups in the Islamist phenomenon are relatively modest. However, this should not obscure the fact that the scene has changed significantly over the last ten years, both quantitatively and qualitatively: the potential number of Islamist individuals has grown steadily in all eastern German federal states during this period and Islamist actors and organisations have increased their local activities, founded associations, taken over prayer rooms and recruited followers.

In the Brandenburg state election the SPD gains slightly more votes than the AfD. Prime minister Dietmar Woidke declared to continue office only if his social democratic party SPD gains more votes than the AfD. This resulted in a highly polarizied election campaign. SPD and AfD profited substantially while all other parties suffered.

Research and Sources on Contemporary History

In der Reihe „Forschungen und Quellen zur Zeitgeschichte“ veröffentlicht das Archiv für Christlich-Demokratische Politik seit 1980 wissenschaftliche Studien zur Christlichen Demokratie, Darstellungen zur Geschichte der Bundesrepublik und der CDU sowie Biographien wichtiger Repräsentanten. Zu den 50 bisher erschienen Büchern zählen auch Quelleneditionen, wie Protokolle von Parteigremien oder Tagebücher von einflussreichen Politikern. Die Publikationen sind im Buchhandel erhältlich.

Sociopolitical Series

Veröffentlicht wurden herausragende Dissertationsschriften mit gesellschaftspolitisch relevanten Themen von Stipendiatinnen und Stipendiaten der Begabtenförderung und Personen, die ihrem Promotionskolleg „Soziale Marktwirtschaft“ kooptiert sind.
