Building Block I The Power of Influence - Analysis and Consulting
Expert talk
Details
However, this influence seems to be shifting visibly - both within the parties and in the environment of the political system. Trends such as globalization and individualization, as well as the transformation of our communication through digitization, and their effect on our society's capacity for innovation and future viability, are driving this shift. Parties are not leading the associated changes by any means.
To fulfil their democratic mission and constitutional role, parties must adapt. They must redefine political influence and answer the following questions:
– What political influence do people have in parties and parties in democracy?
– To what extent has the influence of political parties changed in recent years?
– What are the implications for representation and participation inside and outside parties?
– How do parties need to change to represent the diverse interests of societies?
These and others questions we would like to discuss with representatives of political parties of all levels, experts from political consulting, civil society, and the media landscape.
The roundtable is a prelude to the Athens Democracy Forum and the Berlin Forum on Democracy. In cooperation with the Democracy & Culture Foundation, we would like to lay one of five building blocks for a further deepening of the topic in the coming years.
The results of the Berlin building block will therefore be handed over - anonymized and summarized in three questions - to a representative survey for independent and critical evaluation. The evaluation will then be incorporated into the debates at both the Athens Democracy Forum in September 2022 and the Berlin Democracy Forum in October 2022.
