Zehntausende Peruaner protestieren

Zehntausende Peruaner versammelten sich in den letzten Tagen auf den Straßen, um gegen die neue Regierung und die politische Klasse zu demonstrieren. Auslöser war die Entscheidung des Kongresses, den Präsidenten des Landes Martín Vizcarra abzusetzen, der durch den Kongressvorsitzenden Manuel Merino ersetzt wurde. Die Amtsenthebung war in formeller Hinsicht zwar legal, stellt jedoch in Frage, inwieweit das demokratische Mandat der Bürger respektiert wird, die von den verheerenden Folgen der COVID-19-Pandemie hart getroffen wurden. Auf den Straßen der Hauptstadt Limas kam es während mehrerer Demonstrationen zu gewalttätigen Ausschreitungen; es gab über hundert Verletzte von denen zwei junge Männer starben. Der vorübergehende Präsident Merino ist aufgrund des politischen Drucks am Folgetag zurückgetreten. Aktuell steht Peru mit der Wahl von Francisco Sagasti durch den Kongress vor seinem dritten Präsidenten innerhalb von einer Woche. Die Erwartungen an Sagasti sind gewaltig: es liegt an ihm, das Land aus der politischen Krise zu führen.

Monitoring of Brazilian environmental policy

The "Política por Inteiro" project, with support from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Brazil, launches another outlook of the signals detected in the monitoring of Brazilian environmental policy. "Política por Inteiro" aims to provide a reliable, recurring and comparable data base on public policy signals and propositions in the environmental area in a "friendly" format and with credible data, and that creates a common "memory" about national decisions. Through the monitoring of government actions and rhetoric, systematic analysis of the situation and associated risks and the production and dissemination of information, it is intended to provide a tool to identify signals, interpret trends and consolidate them in an aggregate manner, using data science to inform citizens, advocacy networks and decision makers themselves. Every month there are also online events for the analysis of the situation. Publikation zum Wiener Dialog

In welchen Bereichen der Europapolitik gibt es spezielle Potenziale für eine deutsch-österreichische Kooperation? In einem Artikel unter Mitarbeit von Claudia Crawford, Michael Stellwag und Livia Puglisi gemeinsam mit dem Jean-Monnet-Lehrstuhl für Europäische Politik der Uni Passau wurden einige Bereiche identifiziert. Hintergrund war die Erarbeitung von Papieren für den ersten „Wiener Dialog zur Zukunft Europas“, der im November 2020 in Wien stattfinden sollte. Der Fokus liegt auf bestimmten Politikfeldern, in denen die Länder ähnliche Positionen vertreten. Mit den gewonnenen Erkenntnissen soll die österreichisch-deutsche Partnerschaft für gemeinsame Initiativen in der EU unterstützt werden.
