Wegen der Covid-19 Pandemie führt das Büro der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung bei den Vereinten Nationen in New York seit März 2020 nur virtuelle Veranstaltungen durch. So auch während  CSW65, der 65. Sitzung der Frauenrechtskommission der Vereinten Nationen vom 15. – 26. März 2021. Das Hauptthema der diesjährigen Sitzung war die vollständige und wirksame Beteiligung von Frauen am öffentlichen Leben und an Entscheidungsprozessen, sowie die Beseitigung von Gewalt, um die Gleichstellung der Geschlechter und die Stärkung aller Frauen und Mädchen zu erreichen.

Independent Assessement of Vietnam Macroeconomic Performance by VEPR

Vietnam's economy maintained a growth rate of 4.48% (yoy) in Q1/2021, equal to the rate of Q4/2020 and higher than that of the same period in 2020 (3.82% (yoy)). In 2020, the country had 29,300 newly registered enterprises, with a total registered capital of more than VND 447.8 trillion and 245.6 thousand registered employees, recording a decrease of 1.4% in the number of enterprises, an increase of 27.5% in registered capital, and a climb of 0.8% in the number of employees, compared to the same period of 2020.

Das Escazú-Abkommen – Licht und Schatten regionaler Umweltpolitik in Lateinamerika

Am 22. April 2021 tritt das bisher wichtigste regionale Umweltschutzabkommen in Kraft

Der „Regionale Vertrag über den Zugang zu Informationen, über die Beteiligung der Öffentlichkeit und über die juristische Prüfung in Umweltangelegenheiten in Lateinamerika und der Karibik“ tritt in Kraft. Der Vertrag ist besser bekannt als Abkommen von Escazú und eröffnet der Bevölkerung in Umweltbelangen neue Möglichkeiten der Information, Partizipation und des Zugangs zum Recht. Er ist das erste regionale Umweltabkommen in Lateinamerika überhaupt und das erste weltweit, das spezifische Vorschriften für Menschenrechtsverteidiger in Umweltfragen enthält. Viele wichtige Staaten der Region sind dem Abkommen jedoch noch nicht beitreten, da sie ihre wirtschaftlichen Interessen, nationale Souveränität und Entscheidungsfreiheit durch die Vertragsbestimmungen eingeschränkt sehen.
