A Report on “A Pathway Towards New Development Cooperation”

In recent years, Africa has demonstrated impressive economic growth, but it nevertheless remains a small market. With the world’s fastest growing population and labor force, Africa can scarcely afford not to sustain its high economic growth rates in order to avoid political instability. This report intends to expand the dialogue among the transatlantic partners to intensify collaboration with regard to development policy in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Sie geschieht auch zu einem Zeitpunkt großer Herausforderungen, die der Ausstieg des Vereinigten Königreichs aus der Europäischen Union mit sich bringt.

The study “Gaza: The Water-Energy-Governance Nexus - A Plan of Action for Saving What Has Been Achieved” analyzes water and wastewater conditions in Gaza and proposals for projects and measures which are complementary with one another and would enable economic activity and growth in Gaza. The Fast Track approach will be mirrored in focusing on short term projects, and transitional segments of larger projects; which would trigger immediate benefits to the population and the economy of Gaza.

Ex-Präsident Ion Iliescu vor Gericht: Revolutionär oder Verbrecher?

„Unantastbarkeit der Machtfiguren und ein totaler Skeptizismus, was Gerechtigkeit betrifft, ist Teil der kollektiven Überzeugungen in diesem Land, […]“. Insoweit mag vielleicht das Ende November 2019 eröffnete Gerichtsverfahren gegen Ion Iliescu überraschen. Iliescu war von Dezember 1989 bis 1996 sowie von 2000 bis 2004 der Präsident Rumäniens und steht jetzt vor Gericht. Vorgeworfen wird ihm, im Rahmen der „rumänischen Revolution“ 1989 Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit begangen zu haben. Die Bedeutung des Verfahrens für Rumänien kann kaum überschätzt werden: Nicht nur aus Gründen der Gerechtigkeit für die zahlreichen Opfer der Revolution, sondern auch, weil das Gericht über die Geschichte zu befinden hat. Bis zum heutigen Tag ist umstritten, ob es sich bei den Ereignissen vom Dezember 1989, während der über 1100 Menschen in Rumänien ums Leben kamen, tatsächlich um eine Revolution oder nicht vielmehr um einen geschickt ausgeführten Staatsstreich gehandelt habe.

Parliamentary Law

The course book “Parliamentary Law” is a collective, comprehensive study prepared by Professor Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, PhD, Professor Tanja Karakamisheva-Jovanovska, PhD, and Professor Aleksandar Spasenovski, PhD, all of whom are professors at the Constitutional Law and Political System department at the Iustinianus Primus Faculty of Law, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. The main intention to write this paper derived, primarily, from the needs and requirements of the students of law, political studies, and journalism, as well as public relation studies, organized as studies in the 1st cycle, and of course, the students in the second cycle, the master studies in constitutional law and political systems, and the master studies in political sciences. At the same time, considering the goals of any university course book, we believe that this study will serve the interests of all relevant stakeholders outside the universities, who will be dealing with or interested in this important issue.

While the implementation of decentralization efforts is stalled at present due to the ongoing conflict, the escalation of political and military tensions at the national level has given an even greater importance to local bodies and initiatives. In times of war and political uncertainty, and despite various ideological divisions within members of municipal councils, local government authorities can be key actors in reconciliation and service provision for the population.
