Lebanon is currently suffering from a confluence of deep crises combining economic, banking, financial, social, health crises which have resulted in a complete erosion of public confidence and trust and a meltdown of basic public services. However, the country is presented with an opportunity to build back better. A return to “business as usual” is no longer tolerated.

Breve tratado sobre ordoliberalismo y economía social de mercado

Dignidad y desarrollo nos introduce en el amplio mundo de la filosofía, de la teoría económica, y nos hace reflexionar sobre la posibilidad de alcanzar un orden económico que garantice la dignidad y la libertad de las personas. A lo largo de este texto se comparten ideas y lecciones que brinda la doctrina ordoliberal como base del modelo de economía social de mercado (ESM). Los precursores de este enfoque moral, económico y político comprendieron que la libertad tiene un límite cuando los quehaceres individuales ponen en riesgo la sana convivencia y, por lo tanto, fomentaron la libertad con responsabilidad y la construcción de un orden institucional que evitase la acumulación de poder de cualquier naturaleza. En este sentido, plantearon un programa moral y presentaron los fundamentos de un proyecto político ordoliberal orientado al logro del bienestar para todos. Como parte de su legado y compromiso internacional, la Fundación Konrad Adenauer se ha esforzado durante décadas por compartir las lecciones que brinda la ESM, promoviendo una filosofía económica y social al servicio de las personas. Para nosotros, la persona es el centro de atención, con su dignidad inalienable, derechos y obligaciones. Este es el punto de partida para la justicia social, la libertad y la solidaridad. Como parte de su dignidad, las personas tienen el derecho de participar con libertad y seguridad en todos los procesos políticos, económicos y sociales, que se convierten en pilares para el desarrollo y el bien común. Con esta premisa como estandarte, con publicaciones de alta calidad académica como Dignidad y desarrollo, desde la Fundación Konrad Adenauer quisiéramos alentar el debate e impulsar consensos para configurar una globalización socialmente justa, ecológicamente sostenible y económicamente eficiente. El libro Dignidad y desarrollo es parte de este esfuerzo; es un aporte basado en una tradición moral, económica y política que busca ayudar a construir sociedades más equitativas y desarrolladas. Se presenta en un momento trascendental debido a los retos que conlleva la pandemia de COVID-19 y a la necesidad de las naciones de reorientar sus políticas públicas y garantizar el desarrollo humano con dignidad.

Every nation in Asia has dealt with COVID-19 differently and with varying levels of success in the absence of clear and effective leadership from the World Health Organization (WHO). As a result, WHO’s role in Asia as a global health organization is coming under increasing pressure. As its credibility is slowly being eroded by public displays of incompetence and negligence, it has also become an arena of contestation. Moreover, while the pandemic continues to undermine the future of global health governance as a whole, the highly interdependent economies in Asia have exposed the speed with which pandemics can spread, as intensive regional travel and business connections have caused every area in the region to be hit hard. The migrant labour necessary to sustain globalized economies has been strained and the security of international workers is now more precarious than ever, as millions have been left stranded, seen their entry blocked, or have limited access to health services. This volume by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung's (KAS) Regional Economic Programme Asia (SOPAS), Leiden Asia Centre, and the International Academic Forum provides an accessible framework for understanding the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia, with a specific emphasis on global governance in health and labour.

The monitoring report of the UCEP NGO for the period 2014 – first half of 2021 provides assessments of Ukraine’s progress in fulfilling a set of obligations that are clearly linked to the articles of the Agreement, its annexes or the provisions of other international agreements specified in the Agreement. The report was published by the NGO "Ukrainian Center for European Policy" (UCEP) on the basis of independent evaluations of Ukrainian experts and supported by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Ukraine (Kyiv).

Am 6. Februar hat Costa Rica bei den Präsidentschafts- und Parlamentswahlen nicht nur die beiden Favoriten für die Präsidentschaft bestimmt, sondern auch ein neues Parlament gewählt. Da keiner der Präsidentschaftsanwärterinnen und -anwärter mindestens 40 Prozent der abgegebenen Stimmen erhielt, wird erst in der zweiten Wahlrunde am 3. April über das neue Staatsoberhaupt entschieden. [1] Costa Rica ist eine der stabilsten und am besten entwickelten Demokratien Lateinamerikas. Auch diese Wahlen waren, nicht zuletzt dank der starken demokratischen Institutionen wie dem Obersten Wahlgerichtshof, frei, fair und friedlich. Das Wahlergebnis hielt einige Überraschungen bereit, wurde aber von keiner politischen Gruppierung infrage gestellt.
