Über sechs Wochen nach der Stichwahl in Peru wurde der Sozialist Pedro Castillo der Partei „Perú Libre", die sich selbst als leninistisch-marxistisch bezeichnet, als neuer Staatspräsident ausgerufen. Er setzte sich mit 44.263 Stimmen Vorsprung (0,252 Prozent) gegen seine konservative Konkurrentin Keiko Fujimori durch. Wie stark der neue Präsident seine radikale Reformagenda angesichts einer fehlenden Mehrheit im Kongress tatsächlich durchzusetzen vermag, bleibt abzuwarten. Die Szenarien reichen von der Aushebelung der demokratischen Institutionen, der Fortführung der institutionellen Krise bis hin zur politischen Mäßigung des Präsidenten.

Japan: Its situation, recognition, and discussions around the gray-zone issue

An enormous sense of crisis over a possible invasion of Taiwan by China, which is strengthening its hegemony, was shared and manifested first in the Japan-United States 2+2 meeting, the following bilateral summit meeting, the Japan-EU summit meeting, as well as the G7 summit meeting. It was the very first time in 52 years that Taiwan was included in the joint statement by the leaders of Japan and the U.S. In 1969, Japan and the U.S. had diplomatic relations with Taiwan, hence the situation back then was far different from today. The U.S.-Japan Joint Leaders’ Statement by Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and President Joseph Biden stressed the "importance of peace and stability of Taiwan Strait." It is my aim to present Japan's recognition of the situation in the event that China attacks Taiwan. Furthermore, I look at the challenges posed by the gray-zone issue followed by discussions of major political parties around this issue.

La pandemia de COVID-19 ha traído consigo una desaceleración y una caída de la economía mundial mucho mayores que las registradas durante la crisis de 2009 y la Gran Depresión. A un año y medio de su inicio, muchos ven con optimismo la reactivación de la economía nacional e internacional; sin embargo, aún no podemos hablar de una recuperación de los niveles prepandemia. Por el contrario, hay que ser cautelosos, pues, así como la emergencia sanitaria no ha terminado, tampoco se han acabado sus estragos económicos e imprevistos, y existen factores internos y externos específicos que determinarán la velocidad de dicha recuperación.
