Seit Herbst 2019 demonstrieren Tausende junge Gambier gegen Präsident Adama Barrow, da sie sich von ihrem einstigen Hoffnungsträger hintergangen fühlen. Die unter dem Namen „3 years jotna“ („drei Jahre sind genug“) agierende Bewegung forderte die Abhaltung von Wahlen im Dezember 2019. Am 26. Januar 2020 eskalierte der Protest gegen die Regierung Barrow erstmals gewaltsam. Bei einer Demonstration wurden Anhänger der „3 years jotna“-Bewegung zum Teil schwer verletzt. Die Polizei ging mit Tränengas und Schlägen gegen die Demonstranten vor, die ihrerseits mit Steinen auf Polizisten warfen und Autoreifen anzündeten. Die Regierung soll unter anderem auch Journalisten inhaftiert haben, die im Umfeld der Bewegung agieren. Der tragische Vorfall zeigt, wie angespannt die innenpolitische Lage in Gambia ist und wie notwendig rasche Fortschritte der Sicherheitssektorreform wären.

The following article illuminates the various mechanisms for implementing and enforcing judgements of the three existing international human rights courts.

The murder of over 8,300 boys and men in July 1995 by Bosnian Serb forces of General Mladic and paramilitaries was the worst war crime in Europe since the end of the Second World War. The psychological wounds cannot be healed after 25 years.

Solist auf der Suche nach Begleitung: Taiwan nach den Parlaments- und Präsidentschaftswahlen

Am 11. Januar 2020 haben die taiwanischen Wähler über die Zusammensetzung des Parlamentes und das Amt des Präsidenten abgestimmt. 19,3 Millionen Bürger waren aufgerufen ihre Stimme abzugeben. Die Amtsinhaberin und Kandidatin der Demokratischen Fortschrittspartei, DPP, Tsai Ing-wen wurde mit überwältigender Mehrheit als Präsidentin wiedergewählt. Bereits die Umfragen der vergangenen Wochen hatten sie weit vor ihrem größten Herausforderer Han Kuo-yu von der Kuomintang (KMT) gesehen. Im Legislativ Yuan, Taiwans nationalem Parlament, konnte die DPP ihre absolute Mehrheit verteidigen. Neben der stärksten Oppositionskraft KMT, die bei den Zweitstimmen mit 33,4% nur knapp hinter der DPP (34,0%) lag, allerdings deutlich weniger Direktmandate als die DPP gewann, wurden auch die neugegründete Taiwanische Volkspartei (TPP), die New Power Party (NPP), sowie fünf unabhängige Kandidaten ins Parlament gewählt.
