Election Campaigning in Times of Crises
The past two years of COVID-19 pandemic have been considered as the “true crisis of the 21st-century”. This crisis has exposed both the strengths and weaknesses of different political regimes, but what remains steadfast is the resolve of governments, parties, politicians, and the people to continually seek fresh and strong legitimacy in governing the public, more so in solving these crises. This year's conference will look deeper on how certain issues influenced campaigns such as the impact of the pandemic, geopolitical ramifications, growing economic inequality, increased political polarization, and infighting within political parties.

1st Asian Summer School on Political Parties and Democracy
Political Parties in the midst of Global Democratic Recession
As an inaugural launch of the 1st Asian Summer School on Political Parties and Democracy, the Summer School will tackle the most pressing issues faced by democracy, the Global Democratic Recession. The number of democracies may still be higher compared to the past decade but the recent trends are showing some backsliding. In this Summer School, young Asian scholars together with world renown experts will investigate both the internal and external factors that may have contributed to this recession and determine potential pathways for democracy to become more resilient.
