Foreign and Security Policy during Germany's EU Council Presidency

Address by Chancellor Angela Merkel at Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation on 27 May 2020 in Berlin

"If no progress is made in the Minsk process, we will have to retain the existing sanctions."

Chancellor Merkel stressed that EU economic sanctions against Russia must be upheld in the absence of tangible progress in the implementation of the Minsk Agreement. During her address at KAS she also recalled the unlawful annexation of Crimea and Russia's support for so-called "People's Republics" in the East of Ukraine.
