Introducing Youth4Policy to Hon. Minister Mbayo

Recent graduates of our first Youth4Policy cohort received the opportunity to present the fellowship along with their policy papers at the Ministry of the Presidency. The fellows of the Youth4Policy programme used the opportunity to make a case for their areas of research and defended their policy suggestions, which was greatly appreciated by Hon. Minister Mbayo.

Football4Peace Tournament Unites South Sudanese University Students in Uganda

On Sunday 31st March 2019, the Network of South Sudanese Civil Society Organizations in Uganda (NoSSCOU) brought together the Bugema university South Sudanese Students Association (BUSSSA), St. Lawrence University South Sudanese Students Association (SLUSSSA) and Uganda Christian University South Sudanese Students Association (UCUSSSA) to contest in a football Tournament for Peace under the theme: ‘’Unity through sports’’. The tournament was attracted over 300 students including youth leaders, university administration, civil society organizations, church members and the host community of Bugema neighborhood.

South Sudan’s Customary Courts should be strengthened if they are to promote justice

On 29th March the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) hosted a workshop together with its partner Network of South Sudanese Civil Society Organisations in Uganda (NoSSCOU) on the concept of transitional justice. Transitional justice is a system of judicial and non-judicial measures to address human right violations and promote a smooth transition towards peace. 22 civil society actors participated actively during the three presentations.

Ugandan Non State Climate Action Actors Tipped on How to Access the Green Climate Fund

The way we treat our planet needs change. Uganda needs change. And this change needs the support of companies, NGOs and private actors. But even these actors often need financial support in order to advance climate protection goals. In cooperation with the African Centre for Trade and Development (ACTADE), the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) therefore organised a workshop at which all those present were better informed about the means of financing climate programmes.

“Don't Give Up in Giving Back to Society” East Africa’s Young Leaders reminded

Change needs ideas and ideas demand people who think and approach them. The Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung, LéO Africa Institute and Stanbic Bank are therefore bringing together young and aspiring thinkers of a new generation. Already in its third year, the Young Emerging Leaders Project (YELP) brings over 30 change makers in various fields to reflect and learn more about servant leadership and why it is a key ingredient for addressing the 21st century leadership and development challenges. From 22 to 24 March, 2019, we welcomed 35 fellows for the third cohort. The first seminar was held at Kasenge Forest Resort, a nature gifted hotel located in the fringes of Kampala city.

„Access to Information is crucial for a democratic development"

Together with the Hub for Investigative Media (HIM), the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) hosted a workshop on the importance of access to information for a functioning democracy from 19th till 21st March in Lira. While the first day targeted journalists and civil society actors to explain them their role in accessing and disseminating information, the second day aimed to educate local government officials about their legal duties to provide information for the public. The participants of the first two days as well as citizens and other stakeholders attended the public dialogue on Thursday, which constituted the highlight with ca. 100 participants.

Youth4Policy Public Dialogue and Launch of the second cohort

On the 21 of March, we held the Youth4Policy public dialogue in Kampala. Together with our partners Centre for Development Alternatives (CDA) and the Public Policy Institute (PPI), we organized the Youth4Policy Programme, a policy capacity training for young professionals. The public dialogue offered a stage for the 8 fellows to present and discuss their policy alternatives and ended with the official launch of the second cohort of Youth4Policy.

Final National University Debate Competition for students from all over Uganda

Together with our partner Action for Development (ACFODE), we held the National University Debate in Kampala from the 6th to the 7th of March. More than 40 students coming from ten different universities in Uganda discussed about various controversial issues such as political representation, feminism, women emancipation, gender neutral language and “women only” spaces.

#DataFestKampala: Using the new oil effectively

“Data is the new oil” – this statement was highlighted quite often during the first DataFest in East Africa, hosted by Pollicy and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in Kampala from 6th to 7th of March. Twenty speakers educated and discussed with over 200 participants about different aspects of data such as data management, analysis, security and visualization. Stakeholders from NGOs, the private sector and the government came together to increase collaboration and knowledge.

Between 27th February and 1st March elected youth leaders met in Kitgum district for a training organized by the National Youth Council (NYC) and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). The participants were trained and sensitized about the foundations of their work and discussed their own contribution to regional development.
