Am Wahltag des 15. Oktober 2023 konnte der junge Unternehmer Daniel Noboa mit seinem nicht-konfrontativen Auftreten 51,84 % der Stimmen für sich gewinnen. Die Mehrheit der Ecuadorianer votierte in der außerordentlichen Stichwahl um das Präsidentenamt gegen die für den Sozialismus des XXI. Jahrhunderts stehende Kandidatin Luisa Gonzaléz, die als enge Vertraute Rafael Correas gilt und 48,16 % der Stimmen erhielt. Damit verliert der Correísmo zum dritten Mal hintereinander die Präsidentschaftswahlen in einer Stichwahl. Noboa steht für einen Kurs, der die Bevölkerung aus dem das Land seit langem lähmenden „Correísmo-Anti-Correísmo“ Schema befreien möchte. Allerdings muss der neue und nun lateinamerikaweit jüngste Präsident mit mächtigem Gegenwind rechnen. Denn er steht einer Nationalversammlung gegenüber, die mehrheitlich von Abgeordneten geprägt ist, die dem Correa-Lager treu ergeben sind. Außerdem wird sich das Haushaltsdefizit zu Jahresende auf vier Prozent des Bruttoinlandsprodukts belaufen und wohl viele Vorhaben ausbremsen. Darüber hinaus kommt erschwerend hinzu, dass bereits im Mai 2025 reguläre Parlaments- und Präsidentschaftswahlen anstehen und daher das Zeitfenster für die Umsetzung politischer Maßnahmen äußerst begrenzt ist.
