In the 2025 federal election, the parties enjoyed significantly varying levels of support across different age groups. CDU/CSU is all the more popular the older the voters are. Among 18- to 24-year-olds, the CDU/CSU achieved just 13.0 per cent. Support increases steadily across the other age groups, and among voters aged 70 and over, it secured 41.4 per cent of second votes. The SPD also achieved its best result (24.9 per cent) among the oldest voters, but its support only begins to rise in the age groups from the mid-40s onwards. The Left Party is strongest among the youngest voters. The older the eligible voters are, the less likely they are to vote for the Left Party. The Greens are strongest in the 25 to 34 age group, whilst the AfD is strongest in the 35 to 44 age group. Only in the case of the FDP are there hardly any differences in its support base by age.
