Questions (translated from German): “Now I have a few more statements about what is important or not so important in life. Please tell me, for each one, to what extent you personally agree with these statements. It is important to me that people with German/foreign origins live in my neighbourhood. It is important to me that I also have friends with German/foreign origins. I enjoy spending time with Germans/foreigners.” Figures in per cent. Missing values to 100 per cent: I tend to disagree, I completely disagree, I cannot say / no answer. Survey 1055 conducted on behalf of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung 2024/25. Germans without migration background and immigrants only: 1,657 respondents.
The integration of immigrants and locals depends on mutual contact. The willingness to engage is widespread. For 23 per cent of Germans without migration background, it is very important to live in an area where people with foreign origins live, and for a further 39 per cent, it is important. Even more are interested in having friends with foreign origins.
The other way round, immigrants’ interest in contact with Germans is even greater. This applies to mixed neighbourhoods and friendships. A large majority of immigrants also find contact with Germans pleasant.
You can read about how people in Germany view integration in the study ‘Concepts of Integration in the Population’ (only in German).
