The Russian war of aggression on Ukraine represents a "Zeitenwende" in German politics.
While wars have already been accompanied by the media in recent years and could increasingly be observed in real time via social media, the current dimension of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine represents a new phenomenon. Never before has a war been followed so intensively via the (social) media.
Thus, on the one hand, social media provide a broader insight into the events of the war and help to document crimes. On the other hand, there is the possibility of false information or propaganda being shared.
Civilians or soldiers with a smartphone become or are actors who record, collect and disseminate information. Information about war events gathered in this way opens up new possibilities.
Every individual has an influence on the military and political dimensions of conflicts and their course through the acquisition and dissemination of information in real time via social media.
How can civil society differentially assess these narratives? What skills do politicians need to develop to absorb these social media dynamics? What conclusions can be drawn for future conflicts?
Among others, we will discuss these questions with our experts, MdB Roderich Kiesewetter, Prof. Dr. Natascha Zowislo-Grünewald, George Tikhyi (tbc) and Colonel Dr. Ferdi Akaltin. The discussion will be moderated by Polina Kulish.
Please find the programme below. The panel discussion will be held in English.
