The Ambassadorial Discussion Forum on the Western Balkans of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung brings together high-ranking representatives of the Berlin Process participating countries to discuss EU accession and strengthens the security and economic policy debate in Berlin.

In 2014, the German government, led by the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU), initiated the Berlin Process. Its objective is to strengthen relations among the Western Balkan countries and accelerate the region’s integration into the European Union.

A High-Level Dialogue Forum

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung has been accompanying the Berlin Process for many years. One of our most prominent formats is the annual Ambassadorial Discussion Forum on the Western Balkans. This high-level dialogue platform in Berlin brings together ambassadors from the Berlin Process countries to discuss the EU accession of the Western Balkans.

Impulses for Political Debate

The second part of the program offers diplomats, parliamentarians, and ministry officials the opportunity to connect and exchange ideas. The focus is especially on security and economic policy issues.

The Ambassadorial Discussion Forum on the Western Balkans aims to enrich the German political debate on EU enlargement.

One of the core elements of the format is the joint patronage, assumed annually at ambassadorial level by Albania and the respective EU Council Presidency.

Focus on Cooperation

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is active in all six Western Balkan countries. Together with our political partners, we promote European principles and enable personal encounters that foster understanding and trust. Above all, we encourage young people to engage in society and contribute to shaping the EU accession process. Our overarching goal is to foster the Western Balkan countries’ integration into the EU family.
