• Eine Sommerakademie über die Zukunft der EU versammelte bul-garische und mazedonische Stipendiaten der Stiftung vom 29. Juli bis 1. August in Nessebar am Schwarzen Meer. Die Veranstaltung war besonders wichtig vor dem Hintergrund der zuletzt gespann-ten Beziehungen zwischen Bulgarien und Nordmazedonien auf-grund der bulgarischen Blockadehaltung hinsichtlich des mazedonischen EU-Beitritts. Es kam zu einem lebhaften, teilweise emotionsgeladenen Austausch zwischen den bulgarischen und maze-donischen Teilnehmern, der aber letztlich dazu beitrug, eventuelle gegenseitige Ressentiments sowie Missverständnisse auszuräu-men, so dass die Akademie insgesamt in einer freundlichen und aufgeschlossenen Atmosphäre verlief. Über die Akademie wurde auch ein Kurzfilm erstellt, der hier eingesehen werden kann.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the South African Constitution. This paper details how the Constitution serves as a framework towards a peaceful and just society for all. The aim here is not to be triumphal in commemoration, nor simply be conservative in observation. Instead, the paper affirms that the Constitution is only valid and powerful when its ideals are practiced. It looks at how the guiding values and principles of the Constitution are used and abused. Herein language matters. It is our use of language that offers the clearest measure of Constitutionalism. It is through language that we put ideals into motion. It is also through language that our value system is repudiated, and our Constitutional order is impaired.

What can be expected from the election to the Storting on September 13th?

In this country report we will look at the opinion polling and most central themes in the Norwegian discourse ahead of the Stortinget election. While opinion polling suggests a political change of balance towards the left, it is still unclear if Norway's center-right parties are abailable to create a stable governmental coalition following the election on September 13th. At the same time, a center-right majority seems as good as impossible to achieve if the latest polling is to be believed. Irrespective of this, current conservative prime minister Erna Solberg (Høyre) might still be able to continue governing with a center-right minority coalition.
