The European path of the Republic of Moldova is today a strategic objective that shapes the country’s development direction and the pace of its internal reforms. In this complex process, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Moldovaremains a committed and consistent partner, providing expertise, institutional support, and platforms for dialogue that strengthen society’s commitment to European values. Through initiatives aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, encouraging civic engagement, and promoting dialogue with European partners, KAS Moldova contributes to reinforcing the foundations necessary for Moldova’s progress on its European path and to improving public understanding of the European Union accession process. These initiatives have been developed both in partnership with civil society organizations and in cooperation with the Bureau for European Integration.
One example is the support for the production of weekly radio programs broadcast on Radio Moldova, dedicated to analyzing essential reforms for European integration and developments in domestic and regional security. The programs focus on combating disinformation and promoting fact-based public debate, contributing to a better understanding among citizens of European processes.
KAS Moldova has also supported the organization of an online training course on the EU accession process. The three thematic sessions addressed the stages of accession negotiations, coordination mechanisms between European institutions and candidate states, and the monitoring of progress through evaluation and conditionality instruments. The program provided participants with a clear overview of how the enlargement process functions and of the responsibilities it entails for candidate countries.
Another relevant project focused on a comparative regional analysis of the transposition of European legislation, the progress achieved, and the obstacles encountered, including institutional capacity, financial resources, and political factors influencing the implementation of commitments in one of the most complex policy areas, such as the environment.
In cooperation with the Bureau for European Integration, KAS Moldova also supported initiatives aimed at strengthening the visibility of the Republic of Moldova in the European dialogue. A landmark moment was the organization of the event “Moldova, Europe,” the first major event following the reaffirmation of the country’s pro-European choice in 2025 and the launch of accession negotiations. The event presented an authentic image of a European Moldova and highlighted tangible results of EU support in everyday life.
This cooperation was also reflected through participation in the 2026 edition of Café Kyiv, one of the most important platforms for discussions on resilience, security, and the future of Europe. The panel “When Ukraine and Moldova Are Ready but Europe Is Not: Why Enlargement Needs EU Citizens,” organized with the support of KAS Moldova, brought together experts, government representatives, and opinion leaders. The discussion explored how Moldova and Ukraine have advanced in reforms and demonstrated strong commitment to EU integration, yet continue to face a major challenge: limited public support for enlargement in several EU member states. The panel examined the gap between the readiness of Kyiv and Chișinău and the lower level of preparedness among EU societies, and discussed how better communication, increased transparency, and a citizen-oriented approach could strengthen trust and ensure a credible enlargement process that resonates across Europe. The event offered a valuable opportunity to present Moldova’s perspectives in an international context and to strengthen dialogue with European partners.
These projects reflect KAS Moldova’s conviction that European integration is a shared effort — involving state institutions, civil society, and international partners — working toward the same goal: a European, democratic, and resilient Moldova.
