Across the African continent, information plays a central role in shaping decisions - from public health, human rights, elections, development issues, and everyday life. But when that information is misleading or false, the consequences can be severe, even life-threatening. In an age of rapid social media sharing and digital influence, the need for accurate, reliable journalism has never been more urgent.
It is within this context that KAS Media Africa continues its support for the Africa Check Francophone Fellowship Programme. Held from 7 to 22 July 2025 in Dakar, Senegal, the sixth edition of the initiative convened five early-career journalists from Bénin, Guinea, DRC, Cameroon, and Mali for an intensive, hands-on introduction to the world of fact-checking.
Over the course of 12 days, participants engaged in expert-led workshops, collaborative exercises, and mentorship sessions delivered by the Africa Check Francophone team. Fellows deepened their understanding of how to identify false or misleading claims, assess the credibility of sources, and communicate complex findings in a clear and impactful way.
