International Climate Protection in Foreign Policy

10 Years After Paris ? Where Do We Stand, Where Are We Heading?

Germany is active as a pioneer in international climate policy and is committed to implementing the Paris Climate Agreement and achieving the 1.5-degree target. Key pillars include international climate financing, support for renewable energy in developing countries, promotion of climate partnerships, and Germany’s involvement in EU climate goals. German climate foreign policy on the eve of COP30 and the perspective of the host country Brazil are at the center of our panel discussion, which highlights Germany’s role as a reliable and supportive partner in global climate policy.

The global challenges of climate change require a coordinated and determined diplomatic response. Ten years after the landmark Paris Agreement, we find ourselves at a critical juncture. The upcoming COP30 in Brazil marks a decisive milestone, calling on the international community to intensify its efforts.

Germany recognizes the geopolitical dimension of climate change. Climate policy is no longer merely an environmental issue; it is inseparably linked to questions of international security, economic stability, and global justice. As a key player in international climate diplomacy, Germany has the responsibility to strengthen multilateral cooperation and advance ambitious climate policies.

As part of our event “International Climate Protection in Foreign Policy: 10 Years After Paris – Where Do We Stand, Where Are We Heading?”, we would like to discuss with you and leading voices from politics, science, and civil society how Germany can and should fulfill its foreign policy responsibility in international climate protection.

We warmly invite you to participate in this intensive exchange, contribute new ideas, and connect with experts. Your personal perspective is invaluable in discussing the strategic direction of global climate policy and setting the course for a sustainable future.
