Call for Proposals: 'Post-uprising reform politics in South Asia: Comparative study in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal' project.
The Rule of Law Programme Asia, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung is calling for proposals for an upcoming project titled, ‘Post-uprising reform politics in South Asia: Comparative study in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal’. The project will focus on the reform agenda initiated following the mass mobilisation and uprisings in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal in the last few years. While all three countries have a history of civic activism and mass mobilisation that led to the ouster of their respective leaders produced profound and unexpected shifts. While the developments unfolded due to unique national contexts, struggles, aspirations and lived realities, they raise broader questions on how closely connected the region is, and whether one uprising can make way for similar aspirations elsewhere.
The central objective is to understand the process, progress and limits of reform politics in each country. The study aims at understanding: (a) what aspirations for reform emerged from the uprisings; (b) what type of reforms were proposed; (c) what institutional architecture was created to pursue them and the resulting challenges; (d) and where these processes have eventually landed in terms of political, constitutional, legal, economic and social outcomes particularly after elections in each country.
