Toward Strengthening the Role of Parliament in Supporting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Jordan

This paper examines the role of the Jordanian parliament in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities through its legislative and oversight functions. It stresses the need for stronger parliamentary engagement to support national efforts in that regard. Using international experiences as reference point, the paper develops recommendations on how to strengthen parliament’s role for the advancement of rights of persons with disabilities, among others by enhancing cooperation with civil society and improving parliamentary frameworks and capacities, as well as promoting the political participation of persons with disabilities, particularly in elections. This policy paper is based on research and analysis conducted within the framework of cooperation between the KAS Jordan Office and the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
