Since the current Kenyan government under President Ruto took office in 2022, it has been struggling with an enormous national debt and is therefore attempting to consolidate the national budget. To the chagrin of the population, the government is focusing in particular on increasing the tax burden. Various tax increases have now been announced for the coming financial year in a new Finance Bill, the scale and scope of which far exceed those of previous years. Since the announcement, there have been massive protests against the approval of this bill.
