As one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, the Maldives requires inclusive governance that reflects the voices and experiences of all members of society. Recognising that women remain underrepresented in climate governance despite being disproportionately affected by climate impacts, the handbook equips women with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to engage meaningfully in shaping climate policies and local adaptation efforts.

Written in accessible language, the handbook explains how climate governance works in the Maldives, outlines citizens' rights to participate, introduces the key institutions and legal frameworks involved, and provides practical guidance on engaging with island councils, Women's Development Committees, government ministries, and Parliament. It also includes practical tools such as project trackers, stakeholder mapping exercises, action planning templates, and letter templates to support advocacy and community engagement.

More than a resource, *Taking Your Seat* is a call to action, encouraging women to move from being affected by climate change to becoming active leaders and decision-makers in building a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for the Maldives.
