Tue 12 Dec 2017 15.00 - 16.30

Hans-Gert Pöttering was President of the European Parliament from 2007-2009, during the negotiations for the Lisbon Treaty, Bulgaria and Romania’s accession to the EU, and beginning of the financial crisis. He was Chairman of the European People’s Party from 1999-2007 and is now Chairman of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, a political foundation associated with the CDU. Pöttering initiated and supported the establishment of the House of European History, which opened in May 2017.

This event is the first in a series called ‘Leaders Beyond the State’, in which all former presidents of the European institutions will be invited to the EUI to record their experiences as leaders in transnational government. The public interviews will create a forum in which academics, policy-makers, journalists and members of the public can engage with the leaders who have shaped the European Union to date.
