Through its work in Germany, it aims to empower citizens to advocate for our free democracy as informed and responsible members of society, while taking an active role in politics. To this end, it provides fundamental political education and organises over 1,500 events each year, with around 140,000 participants discussing a variety of topics at over 300 locations, both in person and online.
The work of the 18 educational institutions is particularly distinguished by the fact that, in addition to topics relevant across all foundations, they also address region-specific issues. To this end, they collaborate with partners and maintain networks with prominent figures from politics, business, academia, associations, media, and the arts and culture. Their initiatives are aimed at the general public or target specific groups; they do not shy away from controversial discussions and value open and fair dialogue.
The work of the country offices is dedicated to a specific host country. To this end, the Foundation's representatives on the ground, together with partner organisations, organise programmes and projects that are precisely tailored to local needs. Additionally, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation has established regional programmes focusing on specific topics that transcend national borders. These include our dialogue on political parties and politics, our rule of law programmes, and our media programmes, through which we support independent journalism worldwide. Furthermore, the Foundation operates from five locations in Europe and North America, such as Brussels, Geneva and New York, where it works on multilateral issues related to the international institutions and organisations based there.
The foundation's offices provide a constant flow of political background information from their regions, which stimulates political discussions and decision-making processes in Germany. At the same time, discussions, information and trends from Germany are disseminated to countries where the foundation operates. The foundation's international offices serve as a point of contact for socio-political target groups in Germany and as a networking hub for partners and experts from the foundation's global network.
