Climate Change Summer School 2022

Capacity Building Training Programme in South Asia

With the support of KAS RECAP, the Consortium of South Asian Think Tanks (COSATT) and National College, Kathmandu University organised the first International Summer School on Climate Change that took place in Kathmandu, Nepal between 11 and 17 September 2022.

Participants from 6 South Asian countries attended the capacity-building programme. The summer school invited students from diverse background who were interested in learning about climate change and global warming as well as addressing the problems in climate adaptation. The Summer School contained two components. The first part of it consisted of lectures, tutorials, and group activities, and the second part consisted of organisational tours and field visits. It was a week-long residential programme in Nepal.

 

Overall, the summer school explored the environmental, societal, and economic implications of climate change. Different topics related to climate change, global warming, and environmental protection were discussed. Some of the topics related to climate change included but were not limited to;

Ā·Social, economic and political impacts

Ā·Environmental impacts

Ā·Modelling and prediction

Ā·Adaptation of catastrophic events

Ā·Management of water resources and rainfall changes

Ā·Best practices and lessons learned from South Asia


 

Participants were also taken for local community visits and focused group discussions with the community people in order to understand local climate adaptation practices in Nagarkot, Nepal.  Besides, organisational visit to ICIMOD-Knowledge Park was also conducted.
