Instability and interrelated conflict: evolving security dynamics in the Middle East
A group of experts and policymakers from the United States, European Union, and Middle East joined a discussion related to recent developments in the Middle East. The dialogue consisted of four panels: The first panel touched on regional trends and how they impact American and European interests, and the challenges facing current and past U.S. administrations. The second panel focused on the Syrian civil war and options to manage the violence, as well as efforts to reach agreement to end the war. The third panel explored the broader Iranian question and the role that Washington and Europe should consider during any potential engagement with Tehran. The fourth and final panel covered the role of great power rivalry and its impact on the Middle East.
