KAS Japan Weekly COVID-19 Updates
Key messages include:
- Women are losing jobs at a faster rate than men. Low-income women are hit the hardest since they tend to work in the service-oriented sectors most affected by the economic downturn triggered by COVID-19.
- Women who have the option of working from home are also reeling from the impact of the additional unpaid carework brought about by the virus. Trying to juggle work with additional home responsibilities can jeopardize the income women bring, putting them in a more precarious economic situation compared to men.
