Conference NUMUN 2018
Event Reports
Established in 2016, NUMUN Conference aims to increase students’ awareness of global issues, experience diplomacy in practice and broaden knowledge in international politics. This year, NUMUN 2018 brought together more than 70 students from all over Kazakhstan and Central Asia. The Conference involved the simulation of four organizations for international cooperation: The United Nations Security Council, the World Health Organization, the Council of the European Union and the Game of Thrones committee.
Role-playing the ambassadors of their assigned countries, the delegates discussed the following urgent issues in international politics:
◾The United Nations Security Council: «Combatting terrorism in the Horn of Africa»
◾The Council of European Union: «Minority languages ri ghts»
◾The World Health Organization: «Integration of people with disabilities into society».
◾The Game of Thrones: «Geopolitics of Westeros»
The Conference was opened by Director of Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Kazakhstan Office, Mr. Thomas Helm; the UNICEF representative Zarina Nurmukhambetova, the Dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences Dr. Daniel Pugh; and the Associate Professor at the Political Science Department of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr Mwita Chacha. The invited guests fostered the participants’ interest toward international diplomacy even more and motivated them to develop professionally by encouraging their aspiration to expand their knowledge and experience.
