Strengthening the Role of Civic Actors in the Peace Building Process in Syria
After a decade of war in Syria, the fragmentation of the social fabric was reflected politically, economically, culturally and socially. The Syrian political regime is investing significant efforts in the politicization of identity and use of armed power to submit the community, thus, leading to deficiency in social values. In this context, Hamzet Wasel believes that strategic peacebuilding follows a holistic inclusive approach to be able to transform violent conflicts, and sustain these connections and reinforce them. In addition, the prevailing absence of knowledge, theories and tools related to social stability, peace building, nonviolence, justice and how to invest it in conflict transformation. Therefore, Hamzet Wasel worked on launching a new empowerment atelier focusing on “Peace Building and Nonviolence” based on a participatory approach and depending on translation of resources and dialogue as two key tools for the process.
The project managed to identify and share knowledgeable resources in Arabic language in fields of nonviolence, dialogue, justice and peacebuilding; create free dialogue spaces that were sustainable and rich on nonviolence, justice, dialogue and peacebuilding; acknowledge and analyze dialogue limitations and opportunities among key stakeholders and civic actors on peacebuilding levels; and finally identify the general frame and the topics of the “Peacebuilding and nonviolence Atelier” and prepare the first course.
