Editors’ Conclave: Are Journalism and Nationalism antithetical?

Details
The annual conference jointly hosted by the CR Irani Foundation and the India office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung addresses topics of current importance for Indian journalism.
A series of important political events happening during the course of this year required journalists to think cautiously about the way of reporting. Terror attacks in Kashmir, the revocation of Article 370 or the implementation of NRC had drawn criticism towards them for interfering in national interest. This is where a dilemma between the accountability towards the Indian people, the paradigm of truth-speaking and the preservation of the national interest arises for journalists.
Against this backdrop, this year`s Editors’ Conclave, to be held from 25th- 27th November in Kolkata, focuses on the question “Are Journalism and Nationalism antithetical?” and evaluates in three sessions the cause of journalism, nationalism as well as law, regulation and bias. Several senior journalists will be present at the Conclave.
