This is the twelfth edition of this annual International Security event. The theme will be “World Politics of Security”.

The conference aims to examine security issues in the context of world politics, particularly focussed on the Brazilian and European perspectives, identifying common challenges and highlighting potential for cooperation. The event traditionally features contributions from top government officials, politicians, members of civil society and academia. Discussion panels will reflect upon Brazil’s viewpoint of its own position within the international system, its aspirations regarding the ongoing changes in the world order, and the way the country envisions its regional and global activities in the medium and long term.

The European Union’s approach to the world politics of security will be the topic of the inaugural address. The analysis of principles and norms will be on the agenda, as well as that of threats to the central values of the global order.

In the afternoon, there will be simultaneous panels at 2 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.

Panel 2.1 will hold discussions on the international system, sovereignty, territory and the nation state. Panel 2.2, meanwhile, will focus debate upon regional perspectives of non-conventional war, contextualising these within the framework of past lessons.

Perspectives of joint global efforts regarding security policies will be the topic of Panel 3.1. Finally, Panel 3.2. will consider regional threats to energy security and possible common solutions.

The Brazilian approach to the world politics of security will be the topic of the keynote speech that will close the 12th Forte de Copacabana International Security Conference.

The event will be held in English and Portuguese with simultaneous translation.

Limited places are available, and only those who receive written confirmation of their application will be granted access to the event. Applications will not be possible on the day of the conference.
