In the period from the 8th to the 12th of April, 2019, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Turkey, in cooperation with the Turkish-German Association for Solidarity and Integration (TANDEM) and with the support of the Student Arti Career Club, organized the 113th EU Educational and Certificate Program at Karabük University.

Students from various faculties expressed great interest in the topics selected for this program on the European Union and actively participated in the discussions with the lecturing EU experts.

After the opening speeches by the Karabük University Arti Career Club, the head of KAS Turkey, Walter Glos, emphasized why the European Union was founded and why it remains necessary today. In an interview after the first lecture, Mr. Glos referred to the current challenges of Turkey on its path to Europe. He also made clear that Germany-Turkey relations are connected in a special way, and must therefore continue to be maintained and strengthened. Prof. Alkan stressed in this interview that Turkey needs the European Union just as much the EU needs Turkey.

With this program, the KAS Turkey is making an important contribution to deepening understanding within Turkey about the European Union, its institutions and its key policy areas. At the same time, the program helps maintain within Turkey an interest in Europe, and advances European values. The intensive discussions and surveys carried out by the well-attended EU education program in Karabük revealed that young Turkish academics, future policy-makers and prospective leaders are very interested in the European Union and Turkey's accession to the EU.
