Democracies around the world are under pressure. Social division is increasing in many places, and climate crises and military threats are unsettling many people. The West's liberal principles are more and more being called into question in the face of Corona measures, fake news in social media, and populist voices on the streets and in parliaments.

How can freedom be defended against the challenges of the present? Is liberalism as a political idea and as the basis of our actions still up to date?

In his new book, Liberalism and Its Discontents, renowned political scientist Prof. Francis Fukuyama examines the values that true liberalism must represent, the extent to which neoliberalism has damaged its reputation, and how we must respond to contemporary challenges if we are not to lose our freedom.
