On February 28, 2017, the Second KAS Roundtable 2017 took place on the topic "Can the peace agreement with Hisb-i-Islami be a model for possible peace talks with the Taliban?". The very numerous participants were Afghan and international experts with many years of experience in Afghanistan. The head of the KAS Afghanistan Office, Mr. Matthias Riesenkampff, opened the event with an overview of the background of the current development, before another staff member described the topic from an Afghan perspective. Afterwards, a very lively discussion ensued, which reflected the different spectrum of opinions very clearly. The participants discussed the different perspectives, but also the opportunities and risks of this very emotional topic in detail and expert manner.
