In 2024, Rabea Brauer joined the Department of Civic Education at the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), initially at the Political Education Forum Brandenburg, then moved to Saxony-Anhalt for family reasons. Prior to that, she headed the KAS country office in Japan for five years, alongside the regional program “Social and Economic Governance in Asia” (SOPAS), based in Tokyo. She had previously led the Asia-Pacific Department and also served as director of the KAS country offices in Vietnam and Cambodia. Before joining KAS, Rabea Brauer was Head of the Department for Democracy, Rule of Law, and Human Rights at the Delegation of the European Union to Cambodia in Phnom Penh, and worked as a policy advisor and spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior of the Thuringian State Government.Rabea Brauer studied American Studies, German Studies, and Political Science at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, and Media Studies as well as Political Science with a focus on Foreign Policy at Radford University in Virginia (USA). She later earned a Master’s degree in “European Administration Management” from the University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Law in Berlin. Her areas of expertise include development policy, foreign and security policy, with a clear regional focus on Asia. Drawing on her professional experience in state and municipal politics in Thuringia, Brandenburg, and now Saxony-Anhalt, her current focus lies on domestic political dynamics, particularly the development of political parties within the context of societal transformation processes. Central to her work are questions of social cohesion and the responsiveness of political parties to challenges such as structural change, migration, and the crisis of trust in democratic institutions.
