Dr. Klaus Jochen Arnold

Dr. Klaus Jochen Arnold, born in 1968 in Ibbenbüren, North Rhine-Westphalia, completed his military service with the Army Aviation Corps in 1989/90 and studied Modern History, Political Science, and Eastern European History. His doctoral dissertation was awarded the Werner Hahlweg Prize for Military History in 2004. He worked as a research associate at the University Archives of Freiburg and as the principal investigator of a DFG-funded project conducted by the Brandenburg State Main Archive and the Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam on “Demontages in the Soviet Occupation Zone and Berlin, 1945–1948.” In 2006/2007, he served as a lecturer at the University of Leipzig and, together with Prof. Dr. Konrad Jarausch, published a collection of soldiers’ letters in 2008 with Schöningh Verlag. From November 2007, Dr. Arnold was Deputy Project Manager at the Academy of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, before moving in December 2008 to the Hannover Educational Institute as a Research Associate. Since November 2012, he has been working as a Policy Advisor at the Political Education Forum Brandenburg. In 2015, he acted as an expert for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group on the issue of compensation for Soviet prisoners of war of the Second World War.
