๐Ÿ”Ž What is the geostrategic importance of Central Asia for the EU? How could the EU engage with a region threatened by the Dragonbear?

๐Ÿ‘‰ Our new study: โ€œThe Return of Central Asia: the EUโ€™s engagement with a region threatened by the Dragonbearโ€ written by Samuel Doveri Vesterbye, Farkhod Aminjonov Kemel Toktomushev and edited by Janne Leino, states that the Russian aggression in Ukraine, Europe's dependency on energy imports and the strategic geographical location of Central Asia has put a renewed focus on the region. This paper examines how the European Union and its member states could engage with the region, where both Russia and China have already established a strong presence.

๐Ÿ’ก The study ends in recommendations which include the following:

๐Ÿ“Œ The EU and its member states should approach the region with a team europe approach and in coordination with other likeminded partner countries and institutions;

๐Ÿ“Œ The EU and its member states need to react to the changed regional security environment and offer tailored made solutions;

๐Ÿ“Œ The EU and its member states should support local actors in identifying and countering foreign interference.
