Seminar
Details
Continuous technological advancements coupled with an 80% drop in battery prices since 2010 have placed electrification as a viable means of road transport decarbonisation. Having pioneered the electric vehicle revolution, Norway is demonstrating that battery election solutions are not constrained to the passenger car: having already ordered over 60 electric ferries, and announced plans to electrify all local flights within 2040. What is more, 22 cities across the world have pledged to only add electric buses to their fleets from 2025.
To meet this growing demand for batteries, however, Europe needs to ensure timely policy and financial support is directed towards the local design and production of sustainable advanced- and post-lithium ion batteries. This in turn will not only boost European jobs and growth, but will also help to significantly cut battery manufacturing emissions thanks to the use of cleaner electricity.
A year following the establishment of the European Battery Alliance, this seminar will take stock of progress achieved in boosting Europe’s battery manufacturing base. The panelists will present on the state of the art battery technologies and their applications, share innovative initiatives and best practices, and discuss the legislative and financial needs for battery sustainability across the entire value chain: from raw material extraction, to battery manufacturing, vehicle-to-grid applications, second-life batteries, and recycling.
